The Challenge:

The Product Manager - Developer Tools is a member of the Developer & Platform Evangelism Group. This role owns one of the most important products in Microsoft’s portfolio - developer and platform tools. As Customers and partners build new software solutions for the web, the Cloud, the PC or mobile devices it is critical that their innovation happens on our platforms. Our Tools provide a strategic part of our product portfolio which help developers and designers unlock the platform potential. This role is a senior marketing position and requires passion for developing solutions. In this role you will own the revenue and marketing plans for this key suite of products. You will engage and collaborate with our BMO Organization and key agencies in developing programs for the local marketplace. In close collaboration with sales, you will also drive the overall revenue target and own business analytics and competitive market intelligence. You will engage with the developer community to build a strong relationship with our tools.

The role also drives the local engagement strategy, plan and execution framework for how Microsoft builds sustainable and meaningful breadth and depth relationships with our technical audience focusing on Developers, IT Pros, Designers, Architects and Students aiming to earn the hearts and minds of those Technical Professionals

The Developer & Platform Evangelism Group (DPE) mission is to “Secure the Future of the Microsoft Platform” by ensuring that students, startups, developers, IT Pros, and ISVs choose Microsoft platforms. To achieve this goal, DPE works across 3 key engagement areas - Technical Audiences Marketing & Evangelism, Customer Engagement & Tools Sales and Partner Engagement. Specific DPE activities include:

Connecting the Developer, Architect and IT Pro audiences through an integrated approach to evangelism, communities and intelligent audience marketing.
Engaging Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) through depth and breadth technical evangelism activities
Driving highly visible reference wins on strategic technologies in enterprise accounts that lead to compelling customer reference
Product Management of the Development Tools products and key platform technologies such as .NET, Silverlight and HTML 5
Sales of Microsoft Developer Tools and Platform
Engaging technical students and faculty in universities, colleges and high schools

The Role:

Product Management for the suite of development & design tools for Microsoft. This includes Visual Studio, Expression and MSDN licensing.
Responsible for the achievement of Developer tools Quota.
Effectively manage the business through execution against a comprehensive business plan, achieve and ensure excellence and timely delivery of planning, analysis and mid-year review / fiscal year planning information.
Develop and implement marketing programs from conception to completion (i.e. define appropriate market mix and build plans that span the marketing mix, including channel strategy, public relations, advertising, messaging, etc.) through liaison with our Advertising and PR Agencies. Product plans need to include key business objectives, strategies and tactics for implementation.
Develop integrated marketing plans across many areas and departments of Microsoft i.e. collaboration across Enterprise and Partner Group (EPG), Public Sector, Business Marketing Organization (BMO), Small and Medium Solutions and Partners (SMS&P) Group.
Build and maintain a deep analysis of the Developer Tools business. Use this analysis to gain insight to enhance our go to market strategy
Drive proactive market research and campaigns to win against competitors.
Drive large projects, including large customer engagements, product launches and road shows to completion, meeting ROI requirements and within budget.
Build a strong relationship with the Developer community
Own the public relations for Developer Tools. Be a primary spokesperson.
Be the “chief evangelist” for Microsoft developer tools, but partner with other groups to tell our story across the marketplace
Serves as a local resource for Technical audience “IT Pro and Developer” intelligence use to drive, shape and influence key strategic messages, content, and programs across local Online / Offline marketing efforts (i.e., customer campaigns, events, and deployment). Synthesizes audience and market information to derive key audience insights and affect strategic direction and planning process.
Assesses market and audience standing to develop or refine marketing strategies and programs that are responsive to market trends, audience perception, competitive pressure, product adoption and net new engagement opportunities
Consistently tracks progress to measure business impact including audience Reach, engagement, offers, adoption, advocacy, scale and CPE NSAT metrics


The Fit:

A strong Technical marketer with a solid track record of success. The ideal candidate has experience marketing a highly technical product.
The candidate could be someone with a deep technology background in sales with a proven competency for marketing.

Demonstrated hands-on software development experience with current/emerging web technologies, Windows platform, technologies, the .NET Framework and Visual Studio + other Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server, BizTalk Server, SharePoint, Smart Clients, Microsoft Office, etc.
Experience with multiple, current programming languages
Experience using non-Microsoft technologies (PHP, Flex/Flash, Linux, Eclipse, Java, Ruby a HUGE plus
Experience with or knowledge of future Microsoft developer technologies a plus
Microsoft certifications (MCSD, MCT, MCSE, etc.) are a plus
