Job Description Macmillan Scientific Communications (MSC) is the scientific communications and custom publishing division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd, publisher of the international science journal Nature, Scientific American and the family of Nature journals (through Nature Publishing Group (NPG)). MSC has exclusive access to the editorial and production expertise of NPG and thus is able to create scientific communication solutions of the highest possible standard.

MSC is currently seeking to employ a Publisher, to be based in Cairo, with responsibility for projects/publications in the Middle East region. The Publisher will manage all publishing operations in the Middle East for MSC, manage the senior editorial managers working on MSC publications and take responsibility for maximising and sustaining commercial performance of those publications in the region. Included in these responsibilities is the launch of a translated edition of Nature for the Arabic-speaking world: an exciting and challenging new project.

Requirements:

# Fluent in both English and Arabic
# Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (preferably a higher degree)
# Strong commercial drive and aptitude for figures
# Proven experience in maximising revenue potential, business development and budget control
# Working with content translated from English to Arabic (preferably science-related)
# Running projects, controlling costs and hitting deadlines
# Strong interpersonal and influential communication skills
# Effective negotiation and presentation skills
# Preferred experience in developing and delivering custom publications, and a thorough understanding of the scientific research community


This role is key to the expansion of MSC and is a demanding and varied position that is both intellectually stimulating and challenging. The successful candidate will be a flexible, dynamic and resourceful self-starter with excellent organizational skills.

The position is full-time in Macmillan's Cairo office. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
